World Dance Reviews (WDR) publishes critical "reviews" of dance performances from around the world. Reviewers must:
  • have a demonstrated proficiency in viewing and evaluating dance through their education,
profession, or experience. Please note that almost all of our reviewers have degrees in dance, many have graduate degrees, and considerable choreographic and performance experience.
  • have reasonably good writing skills, and
  • have a critical eye that recognizes the good as well as the bad.

If you believe you have these qualifications, please apply to become a reviewer by submitting a brief resume and a sample review. You can do this by first sending an email here stating your interest. Then your resume and sample review should be in the body of another email (For which we will send you an address. Placing that email address here without Captcha create tons of spam for us as spambots glean such addresses.) Those items, as well as attachments should be written in a text format created by something like Apple's TextEdit, or SimpleText. Software like MSWord imports lots of arcane HTML that is difficult to clean up. That happens even if you then paste the MSWord text into a another text format, i.e., the arcane HTML carries over. Please make sure we have your address and email as part of your resume. If you are accepted as a reviewer your resume will be posted on the site, but your address and email address, and any other personal information will be deleted before it is posted. The sample review can be one you are submitting for publication. We will notify you when we approve you as a reviewer. Thereafter, you may submit reviews as you desire by writing them DIRECTLY in a suitable text editor such as Mac Text Edit or Simple Text, and including them in both the body of, and as an attachment to, an email to the address we send you. We will post your reviews under your name.  No anonymous reviews will be posted. Once your review is posted we will copyright it to protect you and only release that copyright to you on request.

WDR will accept reviews of dance concerts in all genres of dance. Said reviews should be critical, and we encourage reviewers to provide information about both the good and/or bad aspects of any performance, being as specific as is practicable. Reviews will not be censored in any way before publication. However, we encourage you to avoid either the extreme praise of a puff piece or the harsh criticism of a hatchet job. You can find a short tutorial about what we consider a good review by clicking here. Reviews must be written in English or in Spanish and should not exceed 1000 words including titles, reviewer name, and e-mail address.

Letters to the Editor -- World Dance Reviews also publishes letters to the editor. Such letters may be on any topic the reader thinks is appropriate to the site. It should not exceed 500 words in length. WDR tries to publish as many letters as possible, but reserves the right to edit or not accept letters it deems inappropriate, e.g., letters publicizing events (there are plenty of venues for such). If you would like to submit a letter you can do so by simply sending the letter as an email here. You will need to tell us your name, and give us your e-mail address with your submission. We'll first test that address and then delete it prior to posting. We will post your name with your letter.
